The organization of IER can be viewed as in the following scheme:

Research departments
are responsible for the quality of educational programs for master
and doctoral students including research works of these students. The heads of these
departments, therefore, should get a doctoral degree or equivalent. The head of all
the educational programs (for Master or PhD degrees) in IER should belong to one of
these research departments;

Center for Environmental Technology (CEFINEA)
is responsible for technology transfer as well as for environmental
scientific and technical services of the IER. This CEFINEA is an important part of
IER being subjected to the leadership of the IER Directorial Board;

Environmental Testing and Analyses Laboratory
Being the system of laboratories within IER, this component of IER is
managed by a general supervisor and 5 supervisors of specialized groups;

IER Scientific and Educational Committee
comprises scientific recognized personals of which a quarter of total
members are not IER staff. Its permanent secretary committee, however, was made up by
6 scientific key persons of IER;

Environmental Monitoring Station
operates under direct management of IER Directorial Board. Being
authorized directly by the Vietnam Ministry of Environment and Resources, this
environmental monitoring task also helps in fostering closer working relationships
with the Ministry. Our station is responsible for monitoring and reporting environmental
changes in Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta Provinces (Station III). In addition,
IER also monitors and analyzes water quality for Saigon-Dongnai river system and
traffic pollution monitoring program in Ho Chi Minh City

Two New Research Departments
are department of environmental toxicology (including Dioxin Research
Group) and department of environmental management for coastal zones. These two new
departments will be responsible for establishing and development the corresponding
fields of study within IER.
