IER comprises of one environmental monitoring station which is one of the three main mainland stations (approved by MOSTE and MOET)
of the National Environmental Monitoring System. Our station is
responsible for monitoring and reporting environmental changes in Ho
Chi Minh City and MeKong Delta Provinces (Station III). In
addition, IER also monitors and analyzes water quality for
Saigon-Dongnai river system and traffic pollution monitoring program
in Ho Chi Minh City.
|
Environmental pollutants and
parameters being monitored:
- In surface water: pH, temperature, TDS,
EC, SS, DO, BOD5, N-NH3, N-NO3, turbidity, Fe2+,
Cl-, SO42-, PO43-, oil, grease and
coliform.
- In the atmosphere: SPM, CO, NOx, SO2, VOC, lead and
noise.
- Solid waste: its expressed composition
as a percentage, density, humidity, generated solid waste,
collected solid waste, collection means, treatment methods,
location and area of open refuse dumps.

Through Vietnam-Switzerland cooperation project, IER is
monitoring toxic pollutants in water and sludges of SaiGon-Dongnai
river system and also air pollutants in the atmosphere, determining
their sources and recommending the solutions.
Main parameters being analyzed
- Heavy metals: Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr, Ni, Cd,
Hg,...;
- Pesticides: BHC, p-p'DDD, p-p'DDT,
p-p'DDE;
- PCBs, PAHs (in both aquatic and the
atmosphere).
Environmental quality monitoring
results are usually recorded and presented in reports issued
regularly:
矵 - Report on synthetic results of National
Environmental Monitoring Station III (Ho Chi Minh City and
MeKong Delta Provinces) in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000,
2001;
- Report on results of water quality monitoring
of SaiGon-DongNai river system (1996,1996);
- Report on results of traffic pollution
monitoring in HCMC in 1995-2001;
- Primary Report on results of special
pollutants monitoring: heavy metals and pesticide in water and
sludge of SaiGon-DongNai river system.
