Established in 1992, the MEL is organized to analyse
pathogen contamination in water and wastewater and to consult
the biological control solutions. The MEL is also experienced in
conducting Ecotoxicity Test.
Scope of Activity
- Participating in a National Project on water quality assessment
by enumeration of pathogen present in water samples collected
routinely at two months interval. The bacteria of interests are
Coliforms
- Running the research projects on Environmental Microbiology and
Ecotoxicology sponsored by Vietnam government or Ho Chi Minh city
- Planing to apply Enzyme Technology and Fish Sensing for Water
Toxicity Testing and Monitoring
- Available Water Testing Sevices:
In Microbiology: Total Aerobic Bacteria,Total Coliforms, Fecal
Coliforms, E. coli and Fecal Streptococcus
In Ecotoxicology: tests are performed using microcrustacae such as
Daphnia magna and Ceriodaphnia cornuta, bacteria such as
Vibrio fisheri (Microtox technique), algae as Selenastrum sp.
- Giving lectures on Enviromental Microbiology and Ecotoxicology
for post- graduated students (Annual Post graduate Training Program
in Enviromental Science and Technology Program organized by IER)
- Giving practical courses on Enviromental Microbiology and
Ecotoxicology for post- graduated students (Annual Post graduate
Training Program in Enviromental Science and Technology Program
organized by IER) and short-training courses
- To be scientific supervisors for post-graduate students in
carrying out their Master thesis and PhD dissertations in
Environmental Biology and Ecotoxicology
