International Trainning Course on Atmospheric Pollution

This shortcourse was organized together with l'Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) which has been conducting with the IER in the framework of a cooperation project on environmental research and development since 1996. The basic aim of the short course is to promote knowledge about atmospheric pollution as well as the techniques of air pollution sampling and analysis to researchers and practitioners in Vietnam. The shortcourse have been funded mainly by Swiss Agency for Development and Coorperation (SDC) and by IER.

The short course was organized in IER, Ho Chi Minh City during 23rd-29th April 2004 and expected to have a profound effect on the participants’ awareness of air pollution problems as well as on their knowledge how to make sampling and analyzing data of polluted air.


In the framework of SDC’s coorperation project “Building capacity for IER”, the present short course on Atmospheric Pollution was designed to achieve the following objectives.

• Provides basic knowledge of atmospheric pollution for the participants, including a review of the problem on the world scale, mechanisms and factors that control air pollutants, methods for controlling air pollution;
• Introduces basic knowledge of modelling atmospheric polution to the participants;
• Presents air sampling methods, its equipment and procedures for analysing data;
• Strengthen organization capacity of IER in conducting trainning courses, including international ones.
